Outlying Run Recce

This year’s Outlying Run is based in Swanage, Dorset and a small group of members spent a wonderful day this week doing a final check on the Youth Hostel and recce’ing routes. Here’s a taste of what to expect…

Arrangements are looking good. The Youth Hostel has excellent facilities, lots of refurbished rooms, a very nice lounge and a separated dining area. The Carver has also negotiated a special menu for our Saturday night dinner.

On the running front, Andy Howse with input from Paul Newby has been doing a great job of sorting out some wonderful routes. Distances range from 4-16 miles for runners and around 2 miles for walkers. All routes take in the SW Coastal Path and Durlston Castle. The longer routes include Corfe Castle!

There are lots of of other attractions around Swanage including a steam train from Swanage to Corfe Castle and, of course, beaches.

Lunch on Sunday is at the lovely Banks’ Arms in Studland and planned walks include a stroll out to Old Harry Rocks.
