Thames takes to the fells

A small group of Thames’ runners took on the only fell race in the south east…

The Box Hill Fell Race is (I am pretty sure) the only race in the south east of England to meet the Fell Runners Association criteria for inclusion in their calendar. It is tough, 12k race with 2000 feet of ascent but lots of great running and wonderful views. Entries are limited and in high demand.

We had three runners for this year’s 39th Race: Jess Davies, Matt Beaney and Mike Farmery. Sadly, our Men’s Captain, James McMullan who has won the race a few times couldn’t make it this year. The course was in good condition and the weather was pretty good on the day. Both Matt and Jess, running it for the first time had a great time. Mike was a lot slower than when he ran it last time (about 15 years ago).

Matt Beaney, 79.04, 38th in M40 Category

Jess Davies, 81.47, 13th lady

Mike Farmery, 88.14, 7th O60
