For the first time in seven months, we were back racing on The Common and it was really great to see everyone again. Social distancing provided a semi-chasing format to October’s Second Sunday 5 and opening handicap with runners starting at 20 second intervals, fastest first and a new course which worked well. Richard Ollington and Charlotte Mason were fastest over the course with excellent runs too from Bertie Daniels and new signing Felicity Hayward. Combined results from ‘on course’ and virtual runs are below – with handicap results to follow very shortly.
Very well done to Ellen Weir who was fastest overall in September’s SS5. While the appeal of virtual racing may be waning a little, 17 saltires took part – some over the improved course, most on a range of different courses. All enjoyed the glorious late summer weather. THH results in the link.
It was another baking hot weekend and 15 Saltires continued the virtual SS5 tradition. Matt Jones was fastest, clocking second place overall, with Iain Sheridan showing the benefits of lockdown training in a smoking hot time. Full Thames results in the link.
Well done to Kevin Bonney and Andrea Stehlikova who were fastest for Thames over this month’s Second Sunday 5. Seventeen Saltires did the run, out of a total of 60 runners. Nearly everyone seemed to enjoy the lovely weather too. THH results in the link, with full results on the www.secondsunday5.org website.
Nineteen Thames men and ladies ran our June virtual Second Sunday 5. Iain Sheridan showed the benefits of his lockdown diet and training to clock a cracking time for first Thamesman home. And it was a pleasure to have THH runners take part from across the country – from the Rosens in the Lake District to those closer to the Common. Click the link for full THH times.
95 runners and 29 saltires took part in our May ‘virtual’ VE weekend Second Sunday 5. In hindsight morning of Friday or Saturday was the best time to run, with the wind picking up on Sunday and the temperature dropping making fast times harder. None of which was a problem for Ellen Weir who took the ladies’ victory while Gordon warmed up for his Sunday dinner with a victory in the men’s race. THH results in the link.
32 Thames men and ladies ran our Easter virtual Second Sunday 5. Ellen Weir produced the performance of the weekend with an amazing 31.41 while the allure of pancakes at the end powered Nic Gould to the fastest time. Jam, scones and clotted cream was the best cake eaten, though Gordon Pearce will advise eating these after the run – not before. Click for full THH results
Sixteen Saltires ran round in a bumper field of over 120. The race was won by Pat Wright and Chloe Baker from Ranelagh and TVH with David Symons and Andrea Stehlikova first home for Thames. It was pleasure to see so many from Fulham along too. Click the headline for full Thames results.
Joe Gale led home this month’s field of 79 runners including 14 Saltires. It was a beautiful day for running and big thanks, as ever, to our helpful team of eight pioneers and timekeepers. THH results below.
Twenty Saltires toed the line for April’s Second Sunday 5. Run in lovely Spring-like conditions, Anri Cohen was first lady home with David Symons first man. THH results below.
